Wood Fired Fluted Plates
Wheel thrown from a stoneware clay body and fired over three days in a wood-burning kiln. Rims fluted after throwing.
These pieces were stacked atop one another during the firing, as evidence by the six spots where wadding was placed on the large plate to prevent the other from fusing to it in the kiln. The path of the flame across the pieces can be seen where metallic gray wood ash deposits were left on the entirety of the small plate and half of the large plate.
Hand wash only. Food safe.
Large plate measures 10.5” in diameter. Small plate measures 7” in diameter.
Note: Three small pieces of wadding were fused to the large piece during firing, resulting in several craters and bumps where they were broken off. Because of this, it’s recommended to use the piece as serveware rather than everyday dining.
